    Aims and Scope of the School:

    Pharmacology Department at University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences is known for its strong base in neuroscience and behavioral pharmacology in India. Pharmacology department wishes to spread this knowledge and train the personnel in the field of neuroscience by theoretical lectures and practical demonstrations on behavioral pharmacological techniques. The current school will provide interactive lecture sessions as well as laboratory demonstrations. Faculty will be internationally recognized researchers from Asia, Europe and America. Scientific interactions between the students and IBRO faculty will be emphasized and encouraged.

    Description:

    The school will specifically focus on the following broad areas 

    • Depression 

    Theoretical: Pathogenesis, Drug Targets and Animal Models 
    Laboratory Demonstrations: Olfactory Bulbectomy, Forced swimming test (FST), Tail suspension test (TST), EEG recording, Sucrose Preference Test, Post Swim Fatigue 

    •  Alzheimer’s Disease 

    Theoretical: Pathogenesis, Drug Targets and Animal Models 
    Laboratory Demonstrations: ICV administration of Aβ1-42, Morris Water Maze Test, Elevated Plus Maze, Post Swim Fatigue 

    •  Parkinson’s Disease 

    Theoretical: Pathogenesis, Drug Targets and Animal Models 
    Laboratory Demonstrations: ICV administration of MPTP, Bar Test, Block Test 

    •  Huntington’s Disease 

    Theoretical: Pathogenesis, Drug Targets and Animal Models 
    Laboratory Demonstrations: ICV administration of 3-NP, Bar Test, Block Test 

    • Autism Spectrum Disorders 

    Theoretical: Pathogenesis, Drug Targets and Animal Models 
    Laboratory Demonstrations: ICV administration of PPA, Sociability test, Novelty Test, Sucrose Preference test, FST, Rota rod 

    • Miscellaneous 

    a. Literature survey 
    b. Protocol designing for in-vivo studies 
    c. Electrophoresis & Western Blot Techniques 
    d. Scientific writing: Writing of grant application, writing of research and review articles 
    e. Applications of nanotechnology 
    f. Statistical tools & software – Introduction to basics of statistics for sample analysis and hands-on-training on SPSS 

    Who should apply to this School?

    • Ph.D. students and post-doctoral fellows. 
    • Age limit is 35 years.
    •  Only applicants from the Asia-Pacific region can be accepted. Preference will be given to students who have experience in laboratory work and publications.

    What costs will be covered for selected applicants?

    IBRO will enable 25-30 students to attend the School and will cover their round-trip ticket, housing and meals.
