IBRO-ARC Workshop on Epigenetic regulation of neurological functions: impact for pathology and therapeutics
May 6 - 10, 2018
Organizer: Dr. Amira Zaky (Assistant Professor, Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Science Alexandria University, Egypt).
Aims and Scope of the School:
This workshop will focus mainly on presenting the recent advances in epigenetic regulations of nervous system functions under normal and pathological conditions. Epigenetic regulations and implication in therapeutics are diverse; hence we will focus on the following mechanisms 1) DNA methylation/demethylation, 2) DNA acetylation/deacetylation, and 3) gene expression silencing by microRNA. In addition, novel cutting-edge methods for researchers to interfere with normal gene expression using CRISPR-Cas9 system will also be highlighted. Extensive training sessions will be organized on the techniques that are applied for microRNA analysis.
This extensive 5 days workshop will present the recent advances related to the role/implication of epigenetic mechanisms in neural functions under normal and pathological conditions. Distinguished international and national speakers from academia and clinicians will be invited to give presentations on different aspects of epigenetic regulations in relation to various neuropathological disorders (neuropathic pain, neurodegeneration, cancers…etc). Three days will be dedicated completely to lectures and roundtable discussions to all attendee. The last two days practical training sessions on microRNA analytical methods will be limited to 20 selected participants only.
This workshop targets Ph.D. students as well as early career neuroscientists (junior researchers and post-doctoral fellows) to develop their knowledge in the neuroscience field. Ten international candidates from APRC, ARC, LARC, PERC, USCRC, and MENA will be selected based on the evaluation of the scientific committee. In addition, 10 candidates from Egypt will also be selected. Researchers and faculty members who are working or willing to work in neuroscience will also be encouraged to attend. This IBRO Advanced School on Techniques in Neuroscience will allow junior researchers, senior Ph.D. students and postdoctoral fellows to gain knowledge and experience in various advanced techniques that are widely applied in neuroscience research.
Who should apply to this School?
Ph.D. students as well as early career neuroscientists (junior researchers and post-doctoral fellows).
What costs will be covered for selected applicants?
Expenses of the flight ticket and accommodation for the selected applicants from outside Egypt and only accommodation will be covered for the eligible applicants from Egypt. Printouts, meals, and expenses for gathering/social activities will also be covered during the workshop for the selected candidates. Visa arrangement is the responsibility of the applicant.
Application deadline: February 4, 2018 (11:59 p.m. CET)
